Group Blasts Senator Fadahunsi Over Comment on Amotekun, Describes Remark as ‘Abuse of Power’

A group under the aegis of Concerned Youths of Ìfẹ-Ijesa for Good Governance and Security Stability in Osun State has condemned a statement allegedly made by Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, in which he reportedly claimed responsibility for the sealing of the operational bases of the Osun Amotekun Corps in Osogbo and Ile-Ife.

In the viral statement, the Senator was said to have described the state security outfit as a “home of murderers,” a remark that has since drawn public outrage.

The group, in a statement released on Saturday, described Fadahunsi’s alleged claim as “reckless, arrogant, and a shameful abuse of power,” accusing him of overstepping his constitutional boundaries.

“It is both laughable and lamentable that a man whose political history is soaked in thuggery and misuse of raw power could have the moral audacity to cast aspersions on a lawful and people-oriented security agency,” the group said.

According to them, no Senator has the legal authority to order or enforce the closure of any state security institution, adding that such comments from a sitting lawmaker amount to “a dangerous attempt to elevate himself above the law.”

The statement further commended the Osun Amotekun Corps for its contributions to peace and security across the state, noting that the outfit has been instrumental in combating armed robbery, kidnapping, illegal mining, and other crimes, especially in rural areas with limited federal security presence.

“Instead of sponsoring media attacks and hurling insults at an institution that protects the people, Senator Fadahunsi ought to channel his energy into strengthening it through advocacy, reform proposals, and legislative support,” the group added.

Describing Fadahunsi’s statement as “Hitler-style arrogance,” the group warned that such utterances could destabilize the state’s fragile security framework.

“The people of Osun stand firmly behind Amotekun, a symbol of homegrown security and community trust. True leaders build institutions; pretenders destroy them for self-glorification,” the statement concluded.
