2027: We’re Prepared To Withstand Sabotage, Ambitions – Malami
Amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), says the opposition coalition is prepared to withstand infiltration, internal crisis and individual ambition to stay on course.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, Malami said political sabotage and internal betrayal are real threats in any coalition.
He insisted that the newly inaugurated political coalition is equipped to manage the risks as they come.
Recall that the coalition last week adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform it would use to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and possibly defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 poll.
Malami said, “In a political arrangement, you cannot rule out any possibility, including the possibility of infiltration.” He said, “But, one fundamental thing is, we are resolved to continue, we shall continue, and we shall overcome.
We are working to overcome any challenge as it arises.”
Malami, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, noted that political coalitions are always susceptible to crisis, sabotage, and threats posed by ambitions of individual members.
“You cannot rule out the possibility of a crisis, you cannot rule out the possibility of infiltration, nor can you rule out all other negative possibilities,” he said, insisting: that “We are resolved to overcome them. We work in the direction of overcoming them. That is the most fundamental and critical issue about it.”
Asked if personal ambitions could ruin the prospects of the group, Malami admitted that ambition is a natural part of politics, stressing the need for internal discipline and deliberate management measures.
He said, “Political engagement includes personal ambitions. But the most important thing is how hard you work in managing them.
“We cannot rule out that possibility because political engagement is about ambitions. And ambitions are meant to be managed, and we are resolved to manage them as they arise.”
