Prioritise Professionalism, Engineers Charged

Nigerian Engineering Associations have been charged to prioritize professionalism and tap into the potentials in their problem solving field especially in the area of innovation and technology for the better future of Nigeria.

A senior Lecturer from Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering at the Federal Polytechnic of Ado Ekiti, Dr. Hellen Owoyemi gave the charge at the commemoration of the Annual World Engineering Day 2025 organized by the School of Engineering, Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji in Ondo State.
Speaking on the theme: “Shaping Sustainable Future through Engineering”
Dr. Owoyemi described Engineering as a fulcrum of Academic and human communities which connected every facet of life together in terms of Planning, Designing and Creating physical structure through which society lives, works and plays.
He stressed further that it is high time every practicing Engineer up their game in the field so as to able to stand a test of time.
“To be frank, Engineering is one of the most interesting and lively professions that is practical and real in actual sense, it is a fulcrum of Academic and human communities in other word, it is the future for Nigeria,
Before I call it a day, I will let you in on a little secret that demand for Engineering skills will likely to be higher than ever before, I will urge you all to maximize the opportunity it has brought to us through power of innovation and technology in order to deliver sustainable Engineering systems,” he concluded.
Similarly, the Dean, School of Engineering, Engr. Mrs. Ayotunde Akanni while speaking described the event as first of its kind and appreciated the Rector of the institution, Dr. Ademola Iyanda Ebeloku, and all the principal officers, extended management team such as deans, directors, and members of the academic board for their unwavering support to have the epoch-making event possible.
She encouraged the students to embrace the responsibility of engineering excellence, and strive to develop solutions that will positively impact the society because only innovation and collaboration in Engineering can solve global challenges.
“Let me all use this opportunity to reiterate the fact that innovation and collaboration in Engineering can solve global challenges and this is why I will encourage the students in our midst today to embrace the responsibility of engineering excellence and strive to develop solutions that will positively impact the society.” She said
Highlights of the Event were Engineering Road Walk, Exhibition of the laboratory equipment and innovative projects by students from various engineering departments such as Civil, Electrical, and Computer engineering and award presentation.
