Edo: Hotel Under Construction Collapses, Kills Owner
Tragedy has struck in the Idumoza community, Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, where a hotel under construction collapsed and killed its owner, identified as Andrew Isesere.
The remains of the deceased owner were reportedly pulled out of the rubble on Sunday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the building collapsed last Friday, trapping the owner inside, while over 20 workers at the site narrowly escaped death.
Neighbours who spoke to journalists said they cautioned the owner about the quality of materials used for the construction.
“The owner was told he was using low-quality material. He used 12mm instead of 16mm rods for the pillars. There was no base basket at the pillars. Look at the result.
“The building collapsed because of substandard materials that were used. There was no engineer on site. The dead owner supervised the house. The house later collapsed and killed the owner, but some workers escaped,” Andrew Inegbebor said.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, said he was yet to receive a brief from the DPO in charge of Uromi Police Division on the incident.
