Edo NYSC Seeks Govt’s Intervention On Camp Infrastructure

The Edo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Dr. Ben Uchie Ifeoma, has appealed to the state government to address critical infrastructure deficits at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, particularly the inadequate male and female hostel facilities affecting corps members’ welfare and training conditions.

Dr. Ben made the appeal while leading a delegation of the NYSC, alongside the Director of the South-South Area Office, Mrs. Abdulwahab Alidat, on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Charity Amayaenvbo, at the Ministry’s conference room in Benin City.

Congratulating the commissioner on his appointment, the NYSC Coordinator highlighted the wide scope and impact of the scheme in Edo State, disclosing that over 7,000 corps members were currently deployed across various sectors.

She noted that about 70 percent of corps members serve in the education sector, while many others contribute to healthcare delivery and the local economy through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

In his response, Hon. Amayaenvbo reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare and development of all corps members serving in Edo State. He said his appointment came with a clear directive from Governor Monday Okpebholo to prioritize youth empowerment and development across all sectors.

The commissioner also pledged to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the NYSC State Office to ensure corps members’ contributions to the state’s growth are adequately supported and recognized.

Speaking earlier, Mrs. Abdulwahab congratulated the commissioner on his appointment, describing him as “a father to all corps members in Edo State” and noting his dual role as Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in the state.
