Lagos, Ogun States Locked In Boundary Disputes In Six Communities
The Lagos State Government has revealed that it is currently embroiled in boundary disputes with Ogun State in six border communities.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, disclosed this at a ministerial news conference in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
He stated that the disputed communities are: Ode Omi Community in Epe; Abule-Eqba/ Sango, on the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway; Ijanikin/Agbara on the Lagos/Badagry Expressway; Odogunyan/Ita-Oluwo on the Ikorodu/Shagamu Road; Ikorodu/Itokin on the Ijebu-Ode Road.
Robert explained that the boundary department of the ministry has been working with the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to resolve these interstate boundary conflicts through bilateral discussions with Ogun State counterparts and fieldwork to investigate the disputed areas.
The commissioner also disclosed that the ministry is mediating five other boundary disputes within Lagos State, involving: Iru-Victoria Island and Eti-Osa; Igbogbo-Baiyeku and Ikorodu West LCDA; Egbin and Ijede LCDA, and Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA; Ikorodu West and Ikorodu Central; Badagry LCDA and Olorunda.
Robert emphasised that these efforts to resolve boundary disputes are crucial for promoting peaceful coexistence among communities enabling business stability and growth in the state and also ensuring Lagos remains an attractive business destination.
He added that the ministry’s work, in collaboration with the National Boundary Commission, has helped prevent communal clashes and create an environment conducive for businesses to thrive in the state.
