Oyo LG Poll: Makinde Casts Vote, Applauds Democratic Process At Grassroots Level

..Urges Citizens To Accept Outcome Of Election

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has praised the democratic process at the grassroots level and emphasised its importance for the people of the state.

He gave the commendation on Saturday, while speaking with newsmen shortly after casting his vote at Ward 1, Unit 11 in Ibadan North East, Iwo-Road, during the state’s local government elections.

Highlighting the progress made by his administration, Governor Makinde noted that since assuming office, the state has held local government elections twice, ensuring that the people have a voice in determining their representatives at the local level.

According to him: “For us in Oyo State, grassroots democracy is a core practice. As we approach our fifth year in office, we are holding local government elections for the second time.”

“This demonstrates our commitment to giving the people a voice in determining who governs them at the local level.”

Governor Makinde commended the peaceful and responsible manner in which citizens exercised their civic rights and adhered to public law and order during the electoral process.

He noted the transparency of the process, challenging people to compare it with other INEC-organized elections.

Urging citizens to accept the election’s outcome, Makinde encouraged individuals to report any irregularities or concerns to the appropriate authorities.

“Before we came in, it had always been a caretaker administration, where the people did not always have a say on who should govern them at the grassroots level.”

“You can see how people are going about exercising their civic right peacefully, and are obeying public law and order.”

“I’ll like to commend our people for coming, and take this civic exercise seriously.”

“The security has been excellent truly. I challenge people to compare it with the INEC-organised elections and see how transparent the process is.”

“For the people I will say accept the outcome. If you see anything that looks like irregularities as far as this exercise is concerned, bring it up to the authorities and then they will deal with it,” the governor remarked.
