Shiites Clash: IGP Orders Manhunt For Killers Of Police Officers In Abuja
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun on Monday ordered the operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to hunt down the sponsors and killers of two police officers in Abuja on Sunday.
Recall that two officers were on Sunday killed during a recent procession by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shi’ites, in Abuja.
The attack, which occurred at noon left two officers dead and three others critically injured.
The Shi’ite group, however, claimed that police were responsible for the killing and injuring of several of their members during the clash in Wuse, FCT.
Reacting to the development, the IGP in a statement issued by the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi condemned the killing of the officers, labeling it an attack on peace.
He confirmed the arrest of 97 suspects and the recovery of weapons used in the assault.
Adejobi reiterated the police force’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing future acts of violence against law enforcement.
The IGP extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers and expressed wishes for the swift recovery of those injured.
He called on the public to support the police in maintaining law and order amidst increasing extremist threats and violent crimes.
