-As Niger Govt Hail Military, Vigilante Group
Niger State government has commended the military and local vigilante group for their bravery in neutralising over one hundred bandits in Kundu village, Wushishi local government area.
Making commending them, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, General Abdullahi Bello Mohammed (Rtd.) confirmed the incident to Journalists and stated that the casualty figures can not be ascertained.
According to him “We know the bandits will surely evacuate their injured and corpses hence nobody can confirm exactly their casualty.
We urge the security to be at alert and vigilant because the criminals do not accept defeat and should be prepared for them in case of reprisal attacks.”
It was reliably gathered that the said criminals on Wednesday morning were crossing Kontagora road through their usual route towards the Akere axis of Kundu in Wushishi and Mashegu local government areas where they carried out their normal nefarious crimes of kidnapping and cattle rustling.
It was further revealed that the military monitored their movement through the route discovered and ambushed them leading to many casualties on the part of the bandits. Although, the figure could not be ascertained.
An eye witness from the Kundu community told our Correspondent that they got wind of their coming with motorcycles but discovered that they were trekking which they suspected to be the handiwork of informants to the bandits for sudden change of movement.
Also, a resident of Wushishi, Ishaku Musa Kato said they heard gunshots persistently on Wednesday morning even inside the rain for hours.
Accordingly, he said “We gathered it was a gun duel between the military and the bandits. I can tell you that over one hundred of the bandits were reportedly killed.
We commend the military and vigilantes for countering them successfully this time around.”
