Tragedy As 5 Children Suffocate To Death After 5 Hours In An Abandoned Car

Tragedy struck on Sunday evening in Minna, the Niger State capital when five children of three families locked themselves up in an abandoned car for over five hours and suffocated to death.

The incident, which occurred in Gurara Albishir Area 1 located along Bida Road in Minna, has thrown the community into mourning.

According to a reliable source, the children were playing in a large compound outside their houses when they unknowingly locked themselves up in the abandoned Honda Civic car, which had been left unused for about two years by the owner.

The Source hinted that they locked themselves up since around 11am while the parents were looking for them only to discover their dead bodies in the car around 4pm after frantic search around the vicinity.

Nee Telegraph gathered that the victims are three siblings who were the only children of their parents, while the remaining two victims were children of two different parents including the owner of the car.

Their names and ages were given as Zahra (female), 10, Aisha (female), 7, Fati (female), 5, Isah 7 (male), the age of the 5th victim who is also a female could not be ascertained.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Chanchaga local government area, Aminu Ladan, whose house is around the area where the incident occured described it as unfortunate.

The Chairman who visited the scene also condoled with parents of the deceased children.

The children have been buried according to islamic rites at the Kpakungu cemetery.
