The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has named controversial crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, as a person of interest in an ongoing investigation.

In a statement issued on Monday, the NIS confirmed that Bobrisky was intercepted earlier at the Seme border while attempting to flee the country.

Kenneth Udo, the Service Public Relations Officer in a statement titled “Nigeria Immigration Service Intercepts Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky) at Seme Border Attempting to Flee the Country,” informing the public of Bobrisky’s detention and pending interrogation.

This development follows a series of controversies involving Bobrisky, which began in April 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for Naira abuse.

While officially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports suggested that Bobrisky was discreetly transferred to a private location after serving just three weeks, allegedly due to a N15 million bribe to secure his early release and special treatment.

The situation escalated further in late September 2024, when a leaked audio recording by social media influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM) surfaced.

In the recording, Bobrisky purportedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, approached him in prison seeking N10 million to secure a presidential pardon.

The Falanas responded with a cease-and-desist letter, demanding a public apology for the defamatory claims.

In his defense, Bobrisky denied making the statements and urged the Falanas to hold VDM responsible for the leaked recording.

The NIS has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining border security and professionalism in the handling of this case.

NIS also stated that Bobrisky will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and action.
