Again, Ndume Blows Hot, Says Minimum Wage Can Only Buy Bag Of Rice
Amid his illegal sacking as the Chief Whip of the Senate over negative comment on the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government, Sen. Ali Ndume has once again condemned the ₦70,000 new minimum wage approved by the Federal Government.
CityMirrorNews had earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu and the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) agreed on ₦70, 000 as the new minimum wage on Wednesday, which is subject to review in three years.
Speaking on the new wage in a viral video, Ndume noted that the money approved can only buy a 50kg bag of rice which averagely sells above ₦70,000.
This was as he called on President Tinubu to subsequently review the minimum wage upwards.
He said, “People are suffering, people are angry, people are not happy. I am happy that yesterday, the President agreed with NLC to increase the salary to N70,000, which is a good move, but it takes more than that because, realistically, that is like a bag of rice, money that will buy a bag of rice or cover the cost of a bag of rice.
So, I call on the president to still open up and listen to the people.”
