‘We’ll Treat Any Yoruba Nation Agitator As Criminal’- Ogun police
The Ogun State police command has warned against any planned invasion of public facility by suspected Yoruba nation agitators, insisted that anyone arrested would be treated as criminal.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Omolola Odutola gave the warning while speaking with our correspondent in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Odutola who described the suspected Yoruba nation agitators as “criminals”, said anyone arrested invading public facility or disrupting the peace of the state under the guise of Yoruba nation agitation would be charged to court for sedition or treasonable felony.
The PPRO said, the command would not fold its arms and allow any misguided individual or miscreants to obstruct the reign of peace and orderliness in the state.
Odutola’s warning came on the heels of the invasion of Oyo state government secretariat by suspected Yoruba nation agitators.
Operatives of the Nigerian Army had on Saturday arrested nine adherents of the Yoruba nation who invaded the Oyo state government secretariat in Agodi area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
The agitators reportedly occupied and attempted to overpower security operatives at both the state Assembly complex and the entire secretariat.
But, the police in Ogun state have assured residents of the safety of lives and property, insisting that the police would not tolerate any act of public disorder of destruction of public infrastructure by any individual or organisation.
“They (agitators) are armed robbers, even the leader of the so called Yoruba nation has come out to disown them.
“It has some political coloration, because I don’t see how some people will just wake up one morning and start carrying knives and disturbing the peace of a state.
“There is no cause for panic. We don’t know them (agitators), anybody that is arrested will be charged with sedition or treasonable felony because you can’t just come up with a country within a country.
“They are armed robbers who want to go and attack innocent people and give it a political coloration. We will deal with them squarely”, Odutola said.
