Ogun Guber: INEC Presents Certificates Of Return To Gov Abiodun, Deputy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday presented Certificates of Return Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun his Deputy, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele for another term of four years.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Niyi Ijalaye equally presented the Certificates of Return to 25 House of Assembly members-elect, remaining that of Ifo State Constituency 1 which is pending due to the scheduled rerun election in one of the polling units slated for April.

Abiodun who is rounding up his first term of four years had in a keenly contested March 18 governorship election polled 276,298 votes to defeat his closest rival and PDP candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, who scored 262,383 votes.

Presenting the certificate to Abiodun, the INEC National Commissioner for Ogun, Osun and Ondo states, Prof Adekunle Ajayi explained that, the presentation of certificates was statutory according to section 72 of the Constitution which mandated INEC to issue certificate of return within 14 days to winners of elections it conducted.

He charged the governor other recipients of the certificate of return to remain be committed to serving humanity with their respective positions.

Ajayi said, INEC would remain impartial, independent working round the clock to deliver credible and acceptable elections to Nigeria.

Abiodun in his brief remarks, attributed his victory at the polls to the Almighty God and the benevolence of the people of the state.

The governor lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the enabling environment for free, fair, credible and transparent elections in the country.

His words: “this mandate is a call to a renewed hope not just for Ogun State, but the entire nation. I will continue with the people’s oriented programmes that will make life abundant to our people”.

He added that his administration would work towards consolidating the gains made in the first term just as new ideas that would benefit the people would be injected into the system.

“Now that elections have come and gone, I call on all my opponents to come and join hands with our administration to build the future of this state we call our own together”, he said.

He commended security agencies and staff of the electoral commission for working tirelessly to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections in the state.
