Ogun State Polytechnic Of Health And Allied Sciences: Group Harps On Due Process In Appointing Substantive Rector
A Concerned group have called the attention of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state to the selection of a substantive Rector for Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu saying due process must follow the appointment.
According to the convener of the group, Mathew Olanipekun, who made the call in a statement made available to The Conclave on Thursday, said the call became necessary to avoid taking the polytechnic back to the “dark days”.
Olaonipekun, said in his statement that the appointment of a rector with the right requisite qualification will place the institution in the highest pole position nationally and globally.
He said, “Mr Governor as well as the Governing authority must try to avoid the issues that may lead to acrimony as justice must be done to the most qualified out of the nominated three (3) applicants who performed creditably in the just concluded interview.
“Appointing the most qualified out of the three (3) shortlisted applicants would add glamour and attract necessary developmental attention to the famous institution as a round peg in a round hole.
“Subverting the most qualified person for the Rectorship position would not augur well for the state’s first tertiary institution and a foremost specialised polytechnic in the country as due process must be followed”.
The group added that, “we are aware that interview for the appointment of a substantive Rector for the Polytechnic has been conducted and we are also aware that there are Master degrees and Phd holders that were interviewed for the position.
“Our position is that it will be out of place to appoint a Master degree holder as substantive Rector in flagrant disregard of the advert for the position when you have qualified Phd holders who applied and performed creditably. Doing that will not avail the Polytechnic the opportunity to compete favourably with Universities of specialised status
” Investigation by our group revealed that, an unqualified applicant did not file in any PhD Degree certificate in the application submitted to the Registrar at the close of entry on June 16th but the PhD Degree statement of result later presented by him was collected on July 11th with an effective date of July 6th, 2023.
“This implies that, by rule, he was not qualified to be shortlisted for an interview in the first place. How can someone not qualified to be shortlisted be interviewed, graded and recommended for appointment?” The group lamented.
“We however need to reiterate here that we are for nobody or anybody, we are only out for the right thing to be done for the betterment of the institution that have been recognised and acknowledged as one of the first generation Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences in the country”.
Recalled that, the advert to the position of Rector, Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu closed on June 16th, 2023. Wherein, the number one requirement is a PhD Degree certification.
