LASEMA Confirms Fatality, Massive Damage In Lekki-Epe Tanker Crash
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the death of one person following a gas tanker and tipper truck explosion on the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Saturday.
In a statement, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the incident occurred at Ologuro Bus Stop in the Sango-Tedo area, leaving one person dead and two others injured.
“Upon arrival at the scene, our Shark Team discovered that a tipper truck with no identifiable registration number had rammed into a gas tanker from behind, triggering a fire outbreak,” he said.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by overspeeding and reckless driving by the tipper truck driver.
“The driver of the tipper truck, an adult male, died from the impact. Two adult females sustained minor injuries and were promptly given first aid by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS),” the statement added.
LASEMA further disclosed that the fire engulfed four roadside shops, causing significant damage, while the tanker’s contents remained trapped within the vehicle.
Emergency responders, including LASEMA’s Shark Team, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and LASAMBUS officials, were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The agency confirmed that the fire has been brought under control, while recovery operations are ongoing.
