Kwara Firefighters Recover Body Of Woman From Well
Kwara State firefighters on Monday recovered the corpse of a 57-year-old woman, Mrs Jamiu Sikirat, from a well in Ilorin, the state capital.
The woman of the Ile-Agunko compound of Adeta area Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government Area, fell into the well on Monday evening around 6:42 pm.
According to the state fire service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, the service was alerted through an exchange telephone call by one Mr Muhammad Jamiu, living in the neighbourhood where the incident occurred.
“Firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Alfa Abdulganiyu Akuko, a family member of the deceased, in the presence of Nigerian police officers from Adewole Division Ilorin,” he said.
A report said the deceased woman went to fetch water at the well before one of her legs slipped off the ground and eventually tumbled into the well.
Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident and urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and desist from sending under-age children to fetch water from wells.
