11 Vehicles Burnt In Ijora Tanker Explosion

No fewer than 11 vehicles were burnt to ashes last night when a petroleum tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol exploded in the Ijora area of Lagos state.

It was gathered that no life was lost in the unfortunate incident, as drivers and other ran to safety before the explosion.

General Manager, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Adeseye Margaret, confirmed to SlyeNews that, “the raging fire has been curtailed”.

According to her: “Properties involved are: 11 vehicles which include: 2 tankers, 1 tipper truck, 3 trailers, 3 cars and 2 micro-mini busses (korope).

“No life and no injuries recorded as occupants escaped unhurt, ” She stated.

Also confirming the Incident, Coordinator, South-West of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye said 12 high tension electric poles were also destroyed in the incident.

He said the incident, which started around 7.30pm yesterday (Thursday), involved a PMS tanker that crashed in front of House number 229, Moshood Abiola Way, Opposite Fashola Estate.

According to him, the fire “consumed 2 buses, 2 cars, a trailer loaded with Sardines and detergent, 1 SUV, 3 flat body trailer, 2 twenty feet containers and 2 PMS tankers.

There was no injury or casualty in the incident.”

Narrating the incident, Farinloye said:

“It was related that one of the tanker crashed on the trailer with detergent and Sardine, other vehicles ran onto the first 2 crashed vehicles.

“All occupants and drivers of all vehicles jumped into safety before the product caught fire, ” He stated.
