Osun Staff Audit Exercise: ODD Reacts To Alleged APC’s Financial Inducement
A group, Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD), has condemned alleged attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to throw the state’s civil service into turmoil.
ODD in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Felicia Oyinlade, and made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo, on Monday said the report on the alleged N50 million bribe to allegedly induce civil servants is not only reprehensible but also undermines the interests of the Osun people.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the APC in the state has cautioned the PDP to desist from the use of satanic tactics to drive its government as it could be counterproductive.
Commenting on the report, the Osun State chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo, the state capital on Sunday, noted that the allegation of bribery against the APC was false, mischievous and silly.
The state APC chairman told the PDP handlers to cover their faces in shame for their juvevnile and puerile effort to shield their gross incompetence with such a barefaced lie.
It would be recalled that a story headlined ‘How Labour Turned Down APC’s N50m Bribe To Destabilize Osun Civil Service Over Staff Audit’, published by a news portal, went viral yesterday.
Reacting to the report, The Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD) said “the reported offer of Fifty million naira (#50,000,000) financial inducement to civil servants is not only reprehensible but also undermines the interests of the Osun people.
“We believe that the opposition party should focus on ensuring the government fulfills its campaign promises and working together toward good governance rather than resorting to divisive and manipulative tactics.
“A newspaper report had on Sunday published a report that the APC team, led by a former Commissioner, had reached out to labor leaders to explore the development in breaking the support enjoyed by the Adeleke administration. The report said the meetings that were held in two different locations in Osogbo, the state capital, the APC team tried to persuade labour leaders to help destabilize the state’s public service.
“The report went further to indicate that a former Commissioner who is an ally of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, tabled a bribe of N50 million to persuade them, which according to the source, was flatly rejected.
“It is disheartening to witness the desperation of the APC in their attempt to turn the people against the government. This recent move clearly demonstrates that the Osun APC is more interested in advancing its selfish agenda than addressing the needs and aspirations of the Osun people. Instead of engaging in constructive dialogue and working together to foster development and progress, they have chosen to sow discord and disrupt the functioning of the civil service.
“The Osun Democrats for Democracy firmly believes that good governance is the foundation of a prosperous society. APC’s recent actions have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the welfare of the Osun people. Instead of working together with the government towards ensuring the delivery of good governance, the APC has resorted to bitter politics and divisive tactics, attempting to turn the people against the government.
“The people of Osun elected Governor Ademola Adeleke and his administration based on their promises to ensure good governance and uplift the state. It is the duty of the opposition party to hold the government accountable and provide constructive criticism where necessary.
“However, resorting to financial inducements to disrupt the civil service undermines the very essence of democracy and good governance. Such actions erode public trust and hinder the progress of the state.
“In the face of the APC’s manipulative tactics, we commend the Labour Leaders in Osun State for their unwavering dedication to the welfare of the state’s workers. By rejecting the financial inducement offered, they have demonstrated their commitment to upholding the principles of fairness and justice. Their refusal to be used as pawns in a political game is a testament to their integrity and their focus on the interests of the workers they represent.
“The recent actions by the Labour Leaders have reaffirmed the immense support of the state workers for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. Their refusal to be swayed by the divisive tactics of the opposition party demonstrates that the people recognize and appreciate the efforts of the government to improve their lives and create a better future for the state.
“The Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD) strongly condemns the Osun All Progressive Congress (APC) for attempting to throw the state’s civil service into turmoil through financial inducements. This desperate act not only displays a lack of genuine concern for the welfare of the people but also undermines the principles of good governance. We commend the Labour Leaders for their patriotism and refusal to be used as pawns in the hands of a bitter opposition party.
“We also call on all citizens to remain vigilant, reject divisive politics, and work together towards a better future for Osun state. The ODD remains dedicated to promoting good governance, democracy, and the well-being of the people of Osun State.”
