Ramadan: Study Islam Not Muslims- Islamic Scholar
An Islamic Scholar, Dr Dawood Alaga, Chief Missioner, Forum for Comparative Sermons (FOCOS), on Wednesday said Ramadan teaches Muslims sympathy and empathy for the less privileged.
Alaga stated this while delivering a lecture titled “Socio-political and Insecurity Problems in Nigeria: The way out in the lens of Islam” at the Osun INEC Muslim Community 6th Ramadan Lecture in Osogbo.
He said the way politics in Nigeria is played is abnormal and that politicians are acting without sympathy or empathy for the people and that the Muslims among them are not following the dictates of Islam.
He said God has given Muslims in politics all that is needed to fix the problems and challenges facing the country but a lot are not operating by the dictates of Islam.
“Those going into politics are going for their enrichment, so Nigeria politics have to be demonetised.
“Why would governors be collecting security votes and severance allowance but will not pay workers’ salary?
“A lot are Muslims but are not living according to the dictates of Islam. People should study Islam and not study Muslims.
“The so called Boko Haram are not Islamic, because Islam sees humanity in everybody and does not teach killing people wickedly for no just reason.” he said
He said the way to fix politics in Nigeria is for our political leaders to have the fear of God and that all Muslims must be empathetic to the plights and challenges of others.
In his remarks, Dr Mutiu Agboke, Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, said apart from the lesson of Ramadan, what projects someone as Muslim is their uprightness and output at their work.
“The first thing to show you as a Muslim is to do your job. Your output at your jobs is your religion.” he said
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lecture was attended by the Obas of Ororuwo and Ikire, Nigerian Army and NYSC heads, the immediate past Osun REC, Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, among others .
