Sen Fadahunsi Calls On Youths To Organise, Reject Corrupt Leaders, Says Nigeria More Corrupt, Insecure Under Buhari
By Ayobami Agboola, Osogbo
Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), has called on Nigerian youths to properly organise themselves in order to reject the way the country is been run for a better path ahead the 2023 general elections.
Speaking on the situation of the country in the last seven years of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, Fadahunsi said, “we voted for General Buhari to salvage the country from insecurity, but today, he has aggravated the situation across the country. No part of the country is safe from kidnapping, banditry, insurgency, ritual killing among others”.
According to him, “What we have today is a wasted seven years of leadership, whose major achievement is looting and today, the so-called corrupt politicians are vying to hold political offices but the youths must reject them.”
Fadahunsi, who stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, therefore, advised Nigerians to look for a government that can assemble connections of wisdom to chart a new course for the country with a president that must be a man of his words who is ready to serve the people.
Dismissing the insinuations that the National Assembly is corrupt, the Osun Senator said, “the National Assembly has less than two per cent of the country’s N17 trillion budget while the executive takes the remaining 98 per cent.
“Today, Nigeria is saying the National Assembly is corrupt while the man who controls 98 per cent of the budget is not questioned on what he has done with the money, ministers who don’t canvas for votes are stealing billions unchecked while lawmakers who expend on community projects are the ones who are scrutinised by EFCC and ICPC who are under the control of the executive.
“But the executive spending its budget unchecked would not want to monitor its activities or any agency under its control by lawmakers to conduct oversight is frustrated by the executive.
“My view is, by the time President Buhari, ‘the holy man’ is retiring to his farm in Daura, many ministers would have run away from this country, few legislatures would have disappeared before the end of this administration because of the massive looting he did not know, many heads of agencies would have eloped and we will not know until another administration reveal the extent of looting perpetrated because no sector of the economy is doing fine, despite the massive borrowing.
“What we need now is a man that knows the nitty-gritty of the country, the real problem of the economy and can savage the present economic situation from growing worse, a man that will give oxygen to the country, an experienced person that doesn’t need anything than to come and serve. That will also bring Nigerians doing well in the diaspora to revive the economy, people who can speak truth to power and reject directives capable of jeopardising the economy.
“Today, the ruling party is its attack dogs (EFCC and ICPC) to attack the supposedly corrupt politicians who have looted during the past administration to lure them into a safe house, where they are saved from any prosecution once they join them.
“Nigeria debt of today is higher than that of the USA which can offset the loan while Nigeria which runs a monolithic economy is plunging into debt that is higher than that of the USA.
“Today, the Nigerian army is a salvation army, meanwhile, Nigeria together with China and Pakistan started manufacturing weapons the same year. China has become a military superpower, ours only produces Generals who retire as billionaires without the capacity to crush aggressors.”
