Osun: Foundation Trains Residents In Adire Fabric Making

A non- governmental organization under the auspices of Oladapo Authentic African Arts international be in collaboration with Ladekoju Arts and Culture foundation on Friday provided a one day free training in Adire making for over 100 youths and the Less – privileged particularly students comprising men and women in Osogbo Osun state capital.

The free training programme aimed at improving the lives of the down – trodden in the society took place at the foremost Arts Icon old building Late Madam Suzzan Wenger at Ibokun road Osogbo.

Speaking during the occasion the organizer Oladapo Agboola said the gesture is a special way of touching their lives positively.

Oladapo said he was inspired to carry out the free workshop in order to the younger ones and also to contribute his own quota in alleviating the rate of poverty among the youths in the community adding through this effort our teeming youths will be self employed and later employers of labour.

He stated that he was moved to train the people correctly and professionally too when he heard some people within Osogbo metropolis are producing fake Adire.

Oladapo reiterated his commitment to promote Yoruba culture and traditions by creating new ideas adding that the Adire making will strengthen and empower the youths to be independent.

“This is an innovative that l started many years ago. And l have been doing this free workshop for young people so that they can make a living out of it and improve on their skills. Also to promote Yoruba culture because l understand the one being produced here are not original.


He implored the participants not to toy with what they have learnt and ensure that their efforts put in in the course of the training were not in vain.

Also speaking the foster daughter of the late cultural icon Sussan Wenger MON also known as Adunni Olorisa Mrs Doyin Faniyi Olosunfade said the foundation has been very supportive to the community in creating awareness and impacting the lives of the young ones and ensuring people to have the best knowledge of Adire making.

Adedoyin an Olosun devotee called on the government to support the foundation so that more communities and people at large Will benefit from the training saying Art is life.

“When we say Art is life, sharing knowledge for other people as moved by Oladapo is something special to him and spreading the awareness so that people especially the youths have the basic knowledge of Adire making thus promoting himself as an Artist.
