Osun Guber: Council Chairmen Advocate Massive Grassroots Mobilisation
…say ‘charity begins at home’
By Rafiu Agboola, Osogbo
The Forum of the Council Chairmen in Osun under the umbrella of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has advocated massive grassroots mobilisation as the governorship election draws near.
The Council bosses disclosed their readiness to take the full grip of their councils to advance the winning strengthen of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.
Recall that the Council bosses had instituted a strong canvass squad to expand their scope of mobilisation for the party before, during and after the election.
The electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed July 16, for the governorship election in the State.
The Chairmen made the disclosures after their meeting in Osogbo.
They gave a marching order as to need for urgent grassroots mobilisation, saying the time has come for everyone to prove his or her strength in his or her domain.
Speaking on some of the issues raised for discussion, the Caretaker Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, disclosed that the Forum was resolute to ensure all round victory for the party in the next governorship election.
Abiodun, who doubled as the ALGON Chairman in the State, noted that efforts had reached the top gear to unfold some of the strategic plans aimed towards ensuring peaceful, hitch-free and seamless electioneering campaign across the localities in the State.
He commended the Administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for living up to the people’s expectations since his assumption of office, adding that the choice of Mr Governor as the flag-bearer of the party for second term ‘is a round peg in a round hole.’
“We had a very fruitful discussion as usual and some of what we discussed is to tighten our belts as election approaches.
“We have resolved to take the full grip of our respective domains by ensuring that many are taken into our folds since politics is a game of number. Though, this is not a new task because it has been a routine exercise, but this time around, we want to double our efforts to ensure that the volume of votes coming from each of the 332 wards across the State for our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is massive.
“So also, the issue of massive mobilisation has been productively engaged for discussion and we have resolved to return fully to our domains as soon as the electoral authorities order for such. We are focused and determined to continue to spread the gospel of the good works of Governor Oyetola who within the three years made a lot of achievements in all aspects of human endeavours.
“To us, charity begins at home, that is why we have taken the bull by the horns to ensure that nothing is left to chances for collective success and victory of the party”, he added.
