86 Sacked Workers Of Ekiti Vasity Get Victory Again As Appeal Court Rules In Their Favour

The Eighty-six sacked workers of Ekiti State University (EKSU) have gotten their victory again as Court of Appeal sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Monday upheld the judgment of the lower court sitting in Akure.

While delivering judgment on the appeal filed by Ekiti State University (EKSU) against the verdict of the National Industrial Court ( NIC) in Akure, Justice Abdul-Azeez Waziri, who read the lead judgment, dismissed the appeal and ordered the immediate reinstatement of the workers with payment of all their full benefits.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the sacked workers consist of both academic and non-academic staff whose employments were terminated by the university on Dec. 5, 2019.

However, the workers got annoyed by the action of the university management and challenged their unlawful dismissal at the NIC sitting in Akure and on Jan. 21, 2021, the court delivered judgment in their favour.

Equally, Waziri ordered that the workers should be paid arrears of their three months salaries.

Reacting to the judgement,Counsel to the respondents, Mr. Masewonrun Temitope described the judgment as great victory for the respondents.

According to Mr Ajayi Babatunde, One of the reinstated staff, considering the judgment, said that there is still hope for the common man to strive legally in Nigeria based on the appeal court pronouncement.
