NANS Mourns Ibadan Student Leader Who Died In Auto-crash, Calls For Immortalization

The Students’ leaders under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone D, have called for the immortalization of one of their colleagues, Comrade Yemi Adediran, who died two years ago in an auto crash.

Adediran popularly known as “Likedat” had died on Thursday 19th December 2019 in an auto crash while returning from Abuja where he had traveled to witness the Supreme Court judgment that re-affirmed Seyi Makinde as Governor of Oyo state.

The deceased was a graduate of Geology at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo state capital, and was well known for his student activism on campus. He had also identified with the Press Council unit of the institution while alive.

Speaking on Tuesday at an event to commemorate his death, the leadership of NANS Zone D led by its coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Olatunji Adegboye described the death of Adediran as a tragic loss to the entire students’ community most especially in the southwest which covers the jurisdiction.

Comrade Adegboye best known as “Teejay” said the late Adediran had always had the genuine interest, welfare, security, and advancement of his fellow Nigerian students at heart while alive.

He noted that the late Adediran, who was a great alumnus of The Polytechnic Ibadan, earned and command a lot of respect from the student’s body for his exemplary leadership qualities.

“His (Late Adediran) words, teachings, struggles, successes, accolades are written in the books of history and gold as posterity would always judge him meritoriously”, he added.

Accompanied by the Deputy Coordinator, NANS Zone D, Comrade Alao John, and the Public Relations Officer of the Zone, Comrade Opeoluwa Awoyinfa, Adegboye vowed that the students’ leaders would ensure that the deceased was immortalized by the government.

While reaffirming his commitment towards protecting the rights, welfare and security of the Nigerian students, Adegboye further promised to ensure that the memory of the late Adediran lives forever in the hearts of the students by ensuring that the struggles to emancipate the students, which he fought for while alive continues.

In his remark, Abdulazeez Adedeji, the President Students Union Government (SUG) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, appreciated the students’ leaders led by Adegboye for visiting and remembering one of their departed colleagues.

He specifically saluted the courage of the NANS Zone D Coordinator for marching his words with action after his emergence as the leader of the students’ Apex body by showing solidarity to the ivory towers under his jurisdiction.

The highpoint of the event was a joint prayer session held by all the leaders of the student’s body in commemoration of the late Adediran.
