The Secretary of the All Progressives Congress APC in Osun State, Hon AbdulRasaki Ayobami Salinsile has described those behind the suspension of the former commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Kolapo Alimi, from the party as being mischievous.
Salinsile , while reacting to news of the suspension of the APC chieftain, in an interview with CityMirrorNews, said those behind the decision were either ignorant of the implications of their action or were being mischievous.
Recall that Alimi was suspended by the ward Executives of Elerinsi Ward 9, Irepodun South Council Development Area, LCDA, Erin-Osun.
The APC scribe while reacting said Alimi’s suspension was baseless as their was no allegation against him, maintaining that the party did not, at anytime, queried him.
According to Salinsile the people behind the purported suspension of an innocent member of the party were playing to the gallery, saying they wanted APC to fail in the forthcoming election.
He further explained that the suspension cannot stand the test of time.
Salinsile said: “Those who are doing this are either ignorant of the implication of what they are doing or mischievous and want the party to fail in the forthcoming election.
“They are playing to the gallery.
“APC is a big family. No matter the situation, it could be talked over. Those who did it are saboteurs.
“The suspension can not stand the test of time and I want to believe that those who did it, did it out of malice and hatred, I do not know what could be responsible for that.
“To the best of my knowledge, having called the affected person, nobody ever called him or alleged him of any of the offences that could lead to his suspension by the party.
“Some people just sat somewhere to cook something and decided to suspend him.
“The Constitution of the party is very clear about it, Article 21 stated it clearly the offences that could be committed and various punishment that could be meted out for offences after a fair hearing.
“He was not given a fair hearing, he was not alleged, not invited but all he heard was the suspension, I don’t know where they do that.
“He was never invited, interrogated before the action of suspension was meted out against him.
“The constitution of the party has stated steps that should be taken in cases. The man in question is a lawyer he would know the next steps to take”, he said.
While speaking on whether Barrister Alimi was suspended for being a member of The Osun Progressive (TOP), Salinsile said It will be foolhardy for anybody to think that membership of TOP to be a sin to the party especially going through the seven objectives.
“TOP is one of over 300 groups we have in APC, the party support creation of groups and finances them.
“Why should TOP be an exception? After TOP two or more groups have been created and nobody raised eyebrows.
“It will be foolhardy for anybody to think that membership of TOP to be a sin to the party especially going through the seven objectives. None of the objectives stands against the objective of the party.
“The Elders Caucus did the same thing to the chairman of TOP, Lowo Adebiyi without giving any hearing without any allegation.
“They don’t have any Constitutional power in the party, they are just a caucus in the party. It is not reasonable enough that a member of the party will be suspended for belonging to a group preaching success, reformation of the party which are preparatory to the forthcoming election.
“Those in TOP which I am among are people who had suffered for the party and took the government from PDP.
“We would not want the party to lose the seat of power because we have suffered for the party
While expressing optimism that party would emerge victorious in the coming governorship election, the APC secretary said all the embroglio would be settle on the round table.
He added that as a core progressive minded people they would never pray for APC to loose power to the opposition.
