“This is an occasion to give more serious thoughts to the Nigerian condition and the unfolding events. A National Conference has become imperative.

“Among the patriotic voices that have called for it recently is Aare Afe Babalola SAN, a distinguished and highly regarded statesman, selfless educationist and philanthropist. In the same vein, the Governors of the Southern states are urging for a National Dialogue.

“Other committed patriots should key into these and get the President to convene a National Conference for a collective search for solutions to Nigeria’s intractable problems threatening the future of the country.

“President Muhammadu Buhari should also, as a matter of utmost urgency, address the nation.

“He must talk directly to the people on the state of the nation as it is done by all accountable and responsive leaders across the world.

“Nigerians need to know his views on what is happening in their dear country, the multiple threats to individual and collective existence and what they should expect from him as President and Commander-in-Chief who swore to uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
