Osun Begins Free Monthly Food Distribution To Vulnerable Citizens For The Month Of May

Osun State Government on Tuesday said it would not relent in assisting the vulnerable people in the state.

The government made this known in a statement signed by Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Honourable Olalekan Badmus, and made available to CityMirrorNews, in Osogbo, on Tuesday.


Badmus who hinted that the monthly distribution of food to vulnerable citizens for the month of May will commence today, Tuesday, 8th of June 2021, said the programme would take place at the Local Government Service Commission Complex.

The Osun Support Scheme, according to Badmus was to mitigate the excruciating effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on vulnerable citizens in the state.

Badmus who is the Chairman, State Steering Committee OSFSS, said they were impressed with the positive feedback getting on daily basis.

“In line with the resolution of the State Executive Council of March 8th, 2021 and consequent flagoff of the scheme on April 1st, 2021 under the leadership of our amiable Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola to feed 30,000 vulnerable persons on a monthly basis for a period of 21months under the first phase (March 2021 – November 2022),

“I am glad to inform Osun citizens and residents that the distribution of food items (5kg of SEMO) to all the INEC duly recognized 30 local government areas for the month of May 2021 will commence today, Tuesday, 8th of June 2021 at the Local Government Service Commission Complex, this will be the third edition and going by our statistical information, 90,000 Osun vulnerable persons would have been reached via this scheme after May 2021 exercise.

“We are getting positive feedbacks on a daily basis, taking constructive suggestions, and improving on the challenges confronted as we progress on the chains and mechanisms of logistics and distribution.

“We are poised to distribute the food items using the World Bank assisted list of poor and vulnerable persons in the state and through the organizations (CAN, Muslim Community, Artisans, Youth Organizations, People living with Disabilities, Other Ethnic Groups residents in the state, Babaloja, Iyaloja, Students Associations)

“Once again, i thank you most profoundly for your continuous support for the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
