……Commiserates With Igangan People

The Yoruba Welfare Group has warned politicians from polluting Yorubas mind against other ethnic group, asking them to make positive impact by engaging the stakeholders rather than fight and wail on social media.

The National President of the social-cultural group gave the warning at the temporary palace of the Asigangan of Igangan town during a condolence visit to the town on Monday.

Alawuje was apparently reacting to a statement credited to Prof. Banji Akintoye who accused the Federal Government and the Fulanis of declaring war on the Yorubas because of Sunday’s bandits attack on the Igangan community.

He wondered why Akintoye who do not live in Nigeria and has never visited the community concluded the attack was carried out by the Fulanis with the collaboration of the Federal Government.

“Prof Akintoye should refrain from toying with Yoruba lives and property. Yoruba land needs committed security not political manipulations.

“We should rather harness all our strength in Yoruba land with security experts who have national and international experience to rescue our land. We need to start moving beyond what the Amotekun knows about security”,.

The YWG head advised stakeholders to cooperate to fight kidnapping and banditry rather than wail on social media, thereby polluting the minds of the gullible.

He said bragging without physical involvement in reconciling warring neighbors is not only wicked but will also subject the innocent to misery, extra-judiicial killings, rancour and the heating up of the polity

Alawuje urged the Igangan community to pragmatically seek permanent solution to the insecurity in their land rather than allow outsiders who won’t bear the brunt of the crisis to pollute their minds and add to their problem, saying those who started the problem are today are not partakers of the attendant calamities.

Alawuje ccommiserated with the monarch and the people of Igangan town even as he called for restraints and cautioned against any reprisal.

Worried by the news of the latest attack, Alawuje tasked security agencies to step up action and quickly arrest the perpetrators to prevent poople from taking laws into their hands.

He warned that, as a peace loving tribe, Yorubas must not unduly attack or shed the blood of the innocent even as they mourn their loved ones.

Addressing the monarch and the chiefs, Alawuje advised the Igangan people not to allow anyone to pollute their minds or add to their woes, saying those who started the problem were cooling off in Lagos and In Ibadan, leaving the people with the consequences of the crisis.

According to reports, no fewer than 12 people were killed, with houses burnt in Igangan, a-177 kilometer town away from Ibadan, the state capital.

The palace of the Asigangan as well as a fuel station were not spared. They were razed by the suspected bandits numbering about 50, who were said to have invaded the town around 11 pm in more than 20 motorcycles.

Alawuje who is also an ex-military personnel called on Southwest governors to recruit and train the Amotekun guards to be effective forest guards and jungle fighters.

While commending the effort and the courage of the present Amotekun corps, he urged them to go beyond being a political security outfit.

“No doibt, Aare Gani Adams has displayed all he could do within the security scope, but what we need now is professionalism.

“At the same time, Chief Sunday Igboho should know now that security is far beyond what he is doing at present”, he said

Responding, the Igangan traditional ruler, Oba AbdulAzeez Adeoye whose palace was burnt called on the Federal Government, Governor Seyi Makinde and well meaning Nigerians to assist all those who lost their relatives and properties in the attack which saw many buildings and vehicles burnt.
