Covid-19 Lockdown: Legal Luminary, Olanipekun Donates Food Items, Cash To Lawyers In Ekiti
Legal Luminary and former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN has donated one million naira and 15 bags of Rice to lawyers in Ekiti State under the auspices of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA.
The cash with the food item is to serve as palliatives to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 lockdown in the state.
Recall that the legal icon and Asiwaju of Ikere Ekiti has earlier donated the sum of ten million naira to the Ekiti State Government as part of measures to support the poor who are most hit by the lockdown.
Reacting to the donation, Chairman of NBA, Ado Ekiti Branch, Mr Olakanmi Falade described the gesture as another demonstration of generosity and humane leadership for which Chief Wole Olanipekun is known.
Mr Falade said the items and money would go a long way in assuaging the suffering of lawyers, who had been affected by the lockdown in the last 5 weeks, particularly the younger ones.
“We sincerely and most humbly appreciate our revered Chief Wole Olanipekun, who has not just demonstrated leadership at the Bar, but has played the father figure role for which he is acknowledged, not just in the legal circle, but across board”. He said.
He prayed for the donour that,” God will in His infinite mercy, keep him healthy and sustain his capacity to do more for the legal profession and humanity in general ”
The NBA Chairman also expressed appreciation to notable legal minds of Ekiti extraction including the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr wale Fapohunda, previous holders of the office, Mr Apata and Gboyega Oyewole,Senior Advocates of Nigeria, friends of Mr Dele Adesina, SAN, Mr Femi Falana, SAN and a member of the House of Representatives, Mr Ibrahim Olarewaju.
Mr Falade however, appealed to other well meaning Ekiti legal icons to support their colleagues who had been badly affected by the lockdown.
“We also call on other colleagues of ours who God has blessed to support our members at this trying time. As you know, the doors of courts are shut presently to prevent the continuous spread of the noble corona virus, which implies the closure of lawyers means of livelihood.”
