Osun Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Comrade Kehinde Ayantunji, has reiterated his commitment towards raising the bar of honour of the union in the state as well as conscious protection of its sanctity.

He further assured members of the union that his leadership would strive assiduously to strengthen career progression and institutionalise professionalism, if given opportunity to further serve the union.

The Osun NUJ Chairman maintained that his administration in the last one year had engendered industrial cohesion without compromising the integrity of the union, as he promised to enhance capacity building for the purpose of sustaining professional competence of members in the face of technology -driven media.

Ayantunj made this known while addressing members of the union at the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC), Osogbo, the state capital, where he flagged off his campaign to contest for the State Chairman of NUJ, in the election slated for February 13.

According to him, the resolve to flag off his campaign at the station was hinged on the status of OSBC in the annals of the Osun NUJ. He therefore solicited for support of every staff, assuring them of the union assistance and cooperation at all times.

He said ” I purposely commenced my campaign here today because of overwhelming support I have been enjoying from OSBC as the second largest Chapel of our council, since 2013 that I emerged as the Vice Chairman of NUJ in the state.

” Obviously, in the last one year that fate has installed me as Chairman, I have worked hard to unite members for better and prosperous agenda, that has convincingly redefined Osun NUJ in both professional and industrial relations.

“Through several innovations and engagements, we have collectively displayed the inherent intellectual supremacy of NUJ, as the union continued to be more popular, relevant and respected amongst other trade unions.

” Sincerely, I promise to do more if reelected as the chairman, I will continue to sustain the integrity of the union and make welfare of members my utmost priority.”

In their separate remarks, the former Chairman of NUJ, Abiodun Olalere and Director of News and Current Affairs (Television) Akinola Owolabi urged Ayantunji to improve on the success recorded so far if reelected, and demonstrate responsibility in the forthcoming election by ensuring free, fair and credible poll.
