How Oyetola Brokered Peace Between Oluwo And Me – Ogundokun
An elder statesman, Chief Abiola Ogundokun has expressed gratitude to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State for his ‘wonderful and most impressive intervention in the age long imbroglio between him and the Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi’.
According to him, Governor Oyetola’s genuine love for peace and development of Iwo land, Osun State and Nigeria in general is highly commendable.
Narrating the events that culminated in the settlement of the protracted crisis in a press statement, Chief Ogundokun said that he went on a private visit to Governor Oyetola unknowingly that Oluwo Akanbi and others were with the Governor in his sitting room inside Government House , Osogbo.
He added that surprisingly for the first time since the crisis between him and Oluwo started, Oluwo greeted him to welcome him to the venue like others present which he said he responded to.
He added further that a rude shock followed the greetings as Oluwo told the Governor that he (Ogundokun) gave his divorced wife (Channel) poison to kill him (Oluwo).
This, he said led to provocation from both of them but Governor pleaded to the two of them to calm with a vow to put an end to the crisis that day at all costs by the special grace of God.
Chief Ogundokun disclosed that he made Governor Oyetola realised that the royal princes from the four ruling houses in Iwo had visited him last December 21, 2019 in his house in Iwo to beg him to put an end to the crisis with Oluwo Akanbi in company of his Oluwo’s lawyer, Barrister Abolusodun.
He stated that Oluwo Akanbi himself spoke to him on that day through his lawyers phone promising to apologise publicly and renounce all the falsehood he (Oluwo) leveled against on different platforms to which he responded by asking them to give time to consult all his symphatisers.
According to Ogundokun, “God’s time is the best as Governor Oyetola insisted that the crisis must be brought to an end that day inside the Government House, Osogbo at all cost by the special grace of God. God answered Governor Oyetola as his very persuasive, touchy and diplomatic mediation worked. It is only a devil that would at that point refuse the Godly minded and gentlemanly intervention of Governor Oyetola.
“When Governor Oyetola brokered the peace, he warned the two sides not to issue any press statement or address any press conference on it only for me to start reading a one-sided press statement issued by Oluwo’s Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem dated January 15, 2020 published in various newspapers and social media platforms.”
It would be recalled that the crisis has snowballed into not less than five litigations filed against Oluwo Akanbi by Chief Ogundokun in the Osun State High Court of Justice where the court had rejected various motions employed by Oluwo’s legal team to delay and frustrate the suits and Chief Ogundokun’s legal team has remained focused and painstaking in getting the fundamental rights of their clients trampled upon redressed through the courts.
Chief Ogundokun apologised to the general public, most especially his numerous supporters for not carrying them along before accepting the truce. He described their support for him as support for truth and just society even in the face of threats or intimidation saying that he has not even briefed his lawyers.
Once, again, Ogundokun thanked Governor Adegbotega Oyetola for his kindness and spirited efforts in bringing the crisis to an end.
To Oluwo Akanbi, as a father, Ogundokun charged him on the need to be truthful always. He counselled him (Oluwo) to have a total change in embracing peace by embracing all those that has suffered oppression and injustice in the course of the crisis.
Ogundokun expressed profound appreciation to all those that had wanted to settle the crisis from onset like former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Ooni Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Alaafin Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, Osolo of Isolo, Lagos, Olufon of Ifon Orolu, Timi of Ede, Osun State Council of Obas as well as the royal princes from the four ruling houses of Iwo led by Prince Adebayo Abolusodun and others too numerous to mention in their spirited efforts.
