FG Approves Electricity Project For RUGIPO …Governing Council Chairman Commends

Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, has benefited from the Federal Government power project intervention as an electricity project has been approved for the institution.

Mr. Samuel Ojo, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, gave the disclosure yesterday in a statement made available to journalists in Akure.

According to him, the project for the Ondo state-owned polytechnic has been provided for in the year 2020 budget.

Ojo said, “Besides the power project, the school has other positive news. We applied to NBTE for additional 29 new courses. We are happy that nine were approved. We are still expecting others 20 new courses to be approved

“The school will start awarding degrees from October this year by Gods Grace. Tetfund has approved the construction of the state of the art Tech-Hub and other infrastructural developments at RUGIPO.

“Our school has been selected for the Solar farm pilot scheme. We are expanding the Artisan Centre. Radio RUGIPO is on test run.

“But for the Coronavirus pandemic, the school would have currently been on the top gear to host NIPOGA game which is the biggest sporting event ever in the history of Ondo state.”

While commending the federal government intervention, the Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, Mr. Banji Alabi, said the project is expected to provide 24 hours electricity to the institution when completed.

According to Alabi, it will save the school millions of naira spent on purchase of diesel to power generators within the institution yearly.

“We are sincerely grateful to the federal government for the invaluable power intervention. It will go a long way to lift a huge burden from the shoulders of the institution.

“We spends millions of naira on diesel every year to power generators within the school. But when completed, the federal government power project will be a great relief. I must confess that we truly excited,” he said.
