By Olusakin Babalola,Ibadan.
Over 5000 former members of some political parties in the Akinyele local government area of Oyo State on Thursday defected to the ruling party in the State.
They were led to the PDP by Hon.Olusegun Olayiwola, a former Chairman of Akinyele Local Government and a chieftain of All Progressives Congress in the state.
Some members of Action Democratic party (ADP)and other parties were also among the defectors with women dancing in admiration of Hon Olayiwola’s returning to PDP which he left some years ago due to what he alleged to be an injustice to Otunba ADEBAYO Alao Akala former governor of the state.
Elder Olayiwola was received back into the party by the state Chairman ,Alhaji KUNMI Mustapha who described the defector as a man of principle adding that Olayiwola was an asset to PDP.
Speaking with news men,the veteran politician disclosed that he returned to the party due to the respect he has for some leaders in the Akinyele area of the party.
He further said that they are Elders in the community’ whose positions on matter in the area could not be wished away adding that he was also impressed by the performances of Governor Seyi within his short period in government.
When asked to expatiate on why he should quit then because of Alao Akala, the politician said that it was glaring that the PDP primary between Senator Teslim Folarin,Akala and others was not free and fair.
On if he was coming forward first to test water before Alao Akala comes later,Elder Olayiwola said that it was far from being true adding that he was not in politics to feather his own nest but to serve his people who have trust in him like they did for his mentor, late Chief Kolapo Ishola.
