The Osun State Commissioner for Works and Transport , Engr Oluremi Omowaiye has disclosed the readiness of the state government to flag off five kilometres of road in each local government areas of the state.

Omowaiye who was the former Supervisor, Ministry of Works said the present administration under the leadership of Mr Gboyega Oyetola would leave no stone unturned to ensure that all roads across the state become motorable without any difficulty.

He made the disclosure while fielding questions from journalists in his office in Osogbo, the Osun capital.

Highlighting projects of the government Omowaiye said, “We are constructing Ede/Ejigbo road , Ede/Ara junction, Ara/Ejigbo township, Ede/Ara junction, Ara/Ejigbo township road would also be flagging off. We are also doing the roundabout Ejigbo to Uniosun junction, in Ejigbo that’s a road leading to General hospital Ejigbo”

“We are doing Alekuwodo, we are doing Ilesa roundabout to Sabo to Akure expressway. We are doing Moro junction, Moro/Yakoyo/Ipetumodu/Akinlalu/Asipa, Igbajo/Ada road infact we are doing a lot of roads. We are doing roads in Ayedaade, Olaouwa, Apomu, Ikire Oriade, Obokun Ila to Kwara state road.

He noted that, “When Mr Gboyega Oyetola came in as Governor , we did our assessment , we did analysis of all ongoing projects we look at them and we also did a critical evaluation of status of major roads across the state.”

He stressed further that, “When we came in the first thing we did is that we embarked on rehabilitation of ten major township roads which includes Ede- in Ede, we took it from Orita Cottage to Akoda, we did in Ikire, we took it from Naira and Kobo through Apomu to Ikoyi. We did in Ikoyi , we did in Ife, we did in Ejigbo and we did in Iwo. We did Osogbo, we did in Ijebujesa, we did between Iragbiji and Ikirun , we did about ten roads”

“Apart from that, we also ensure that all the major roads projects started by the last administration we got the contractors back to the sites.
Osogbo/Gbongan)Akoda road, the Circular road popularly called Ona Baba Ona and Osogbo /Ila-Odo road.
If you go to those sites now you will discover that there are serious work ongoing.

“And I can tell you we have been able to increase the percent of completion significantly. When we came we met Osogbo/Ila-Odo less than fifty percent, Osogbo/Gbongan/Akoda at less than fifty percent and j think the circular road popularly known as Ona Baba Ona was more than fifty percent but I can tell you we have increased it significantly.

“And apart from that we have also looked at major roads. Take Osogbo/Iwo road for instance, we had the collaborative effort with the federal government so as I am speaking now rehabilitation of Osogbo/Iwo road is ongoing.

“The contractors handling Osogbo/Ilobu/Oko road had abandoned the job since 2013. We brought back the contractors and had agreement with the contractors through it’s federal government work but it took our intervention and had an arrangement to support the contractor. Osogbo/Ilobu is ongoing now we also looked at the Lameco Junction to Agunbelowo had been done.

“We also did Okedio , Ilesa. We have also done other projects that are ongoing not massive but across the state. We are also using our contacts and collaborative efforts to get Federal Road Maintenance Agency to also handle a number of repairs .

“At the moment they have done Garage to Breweries in Ilesa. They have worked in Ipetu Ijesa to Ileoluji. We still have a number of raods they are working on. For instance, we also used our collaborative efforts to get Ibadan/Ife/Ilesa rehabilitated and full reconstruction is starting very soon but it’s our joint efforts that brought that.

“We are also embarking on rehabilitation and reconstruction of over a hundred roads under the five kilometres per local government square. We are doing over a hundred roads and any moment from now we are flagging off the reconstruction of major roads across the state.

“We want to maximize the fact that we are going to have heavy downpour this year so before the rain start some of the contractors have been mandated to start moving to sites. It’s a massive projects , so far we have done a lot of roads and we will continue to do more because the need for road infrastructure cannot be overestimated.

“We are also ensuring that we won’t just say we are flagging off these roads we have put machineries in place to make sure that they are quality standard and done at the right time.

“We have put in place a very sound monitoring system to ensure full compliance to standard we agreed on. We are also working a Flexible and Workable Financing Model to make sure these roads are completely done without delay as a result of fund.

He urged the residents of the state to continue to support the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in his bid to transform the state to the greater heights by regularly paying their taxes and levies saying the present administration is determined make Osun habitable for residents .

He sounded a note of warning to suspected vandals who have been engaging in destroying the cable of the street light describing their actions as a attempt to frustrate the effort of the state government .
