DPR Solicits NSCDC Support Against Fuel Adulteration, Underdispensing

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has solicited for the support and cooperation of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to check fuel adulteration and underdispensing during its surveillance operations.

Mr Ademola Makinde, DPR’s Operations Controller, Osogbo, made the remarks during a courtesy call by the State Commandant’s of NSCDC to the department on Thursday.

Makinde said the support of NSCDC during the DPR’s survellance operation in the state was needed to ensure that customers get value for their money.

He said the survelliance was part of the core mandate of DPR to ensure that the masses were not shortchanged by the petroleum marketers.

According to him, though there are no fuel depot or pipeline in the state but survelliance was part of the core mandate of DPR to ensure that the masses were not shortchanged by the petroleum marketers in the state.

Makinde said for effective and smooth surveillance operations, the cooperation of NSCDC was needed.

“The synergy between DPR and NSCD dated back to the period pipeline vandalisation in the country.

“And till now, there is need for cooperation between DPR and NSCDC for effective operations in the state.

“We both need to maintain focus to ensure that that petroleum marketers operate within the law”Makinde said.

The DPR controller, however, emphasised that the department was the only body invested with power to seal or unseal filing stations for for non compliance to global best practices by the marketers.

In his remarks, Mr Kingsley Oguntuwase, the NSCDC State Commandant said the organisation was ready to support DPR at achieving its core mandate.

Oguntuwase said since DPR and NSCDC were working towards the same goal, the cooperation between the two organisations was necessary.
