Ospoly Students Attribute Death Of Colleague To Management’s Lackadaisical Attitude

The Student Union Government of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has decried the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the school management that led to the death of one Aminu Sheu, who slumped and died recently in the examination hall.

The students who were so furious by the development on campus berate the school management for refusing to provide the needed infrastructures and for turn deaf hear to the welfare of students which they alleged to have resorted to the death of Sheu.

CityMirrorNews recalls that an HND student of the institution, Aminu Sheu slumped after examination on May 31, 2019 and died few minutes after on their way to the hospital.

The leadership of the union led by Comrade Bolaji Ezekiel Olaniyi disclosed this on Wednesday during a press conference at the Osun State NUJ Correspondents’ chapel in Osogbo.

Olaniyi said it is quite unfortunate that the news being circulated about the incident which resulted into the vandalization of the school health Centre is far from the truth.

He confirmed that the health Centre was vandalized and looted but not set ablazed as reported by the school Public Relations Officer, Mr Tope Abiola.

“We are bold to state that Mr Abiola has been misinforming and making attempts to incite the general public against the students.”

While explaining the ugly incident, the SUG president said the student died due to the lackadaisical attitude of the school management to heed to the yearnings of students to have a functioning and well equipped health centre off campus.

“When the deceased was rushed to the school health centre some minutes before 5pm, the medical personnel present said they have closed for the day.

“The school failed to attend to the student and also provide an ambulance to convey the deceased to another hospital.

“The deceased who was conveyed on a motorcycle died before getting to the nearest hospital”.

In the same vein, the leadership of the union said there is no justification for the suspension of the union as regards the happenings in the institution.

The management of the institution on June 13 suspended the activities of the of the student union.

Olaniyi said the union proposed a procession for the deceased in the school community but some miscreants hijacked the event when he was addressing students at the institution’s gate.

The union said any attempt by the management to take advantage of the happenings in the institution to unjustly suspend the union shall be resisted by the entire union.

They urged the investigation panel to be objective, fair and just in their recommendations and expose students culpable in the crisis.
