Osun Guber Poll: ADP Members Attacked By Suspected Political Thugs

No fewer than seven members of Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Osun State have been attacked by people suspected to be hired political thugs.

The incident occurred at the weekend in Ijebu-Jesa, headquarters of Oriade Local Government Council of the state.

The attacked was carried out at the private office of Taiwo Fatiregun, a Chieftain of ADP when the suspected political thugs allegedly led by the first son of the council chairman, Bunmi Obeisun, Blessing, to carry out the onslaught.

Eyes witness account revealed that the ADP members had embarked on early morning campaign and sensitization for their gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti who had just dump APC for ADP and retired to Taiwo Fatiregun’s office when the thugs numbering about twenty stormed the place and released terror on them.

The thugs, according to the source armed with dangerous weapons including iron rods and charms.

One of the victims was stabbed in the upper side of his eye while Fatiregun got his head smashed with iron rod and another with broken arm.

Some of the attackers named include Blessing Obeisun, the first son of the council chairman, Bunmi Obeisun, Ayeloja Ojo and Odunayo, the driver of Timsed Water in Ijebu-Jesa among others.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Folasade Odoro confirmed the incident. She explained that the council and three others persons had been arrested and being interrogated over the incident.

Meanwhile, the state Chapter of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has condemned the attack on its members.

The publicity Secretary of the party, Elder Ayo Fakeye in a statement issued said that the attack is barbaric.

According to him, “the era of imposition and attack on members of the opposition political parties ought to belong to the relics of our nation’s political history.

“But in a situation where members of our party were attacked during a meeting in Ijebu-Jesa, to me, such crude attack is unjustifiable,” Fakeye stressed.

The ADP spokesman therefore called on the security agencies in the state to investigate the unfortunate incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I want to use this opportunity to task the various officers and men of the security agencies in the state to investigate the unwarranted attack on our party members and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book,” Fakeye further stated.

He however charged members of the party not to be discouraged, as the attack is a signal to the fact that success is certain for the party come September 22 governorship election.

“My appeal to the members of our party in the state is that they should see the recent attack on our members as a sign that ADP has become the party to beat in the fast-approaching September 22 governorship election,”
