MP Advises Nigerians On Democracy Day, Warns Them Not To Sell out
By .Olu Babalola, Ibadan
A leading gubernatorial aspirant in Osun State and lawmaker in the National Assembly, Honourable Albert A.Adeogun has commended Nigerians in general and indigenes of Osun State in particular for their resilience as they obseverbed the Democracy day calling on them to take their destiny in their hands as they prepare to vote in new administrations at states and federal levels this year and 2019 respectively.
Adeogun’s advice was contained in a press statement made available to news men where he called on poterntial voters to use their power to reject government that could not guarantee their security and welfare.
Th lawmaker representing Ife Federal constituency in the Federal House of Representatives described as a sign of irresponsibility the failure of Federal government to arrest spate of killings around the country pointing out that the situations were not as worse as this during the last administration.
“You can imagine how the Fulani Herders are killing people with reckless abandon in Benue,Zamfara ,Adamawa and other Northern States.Men of God were not spared as if there are no leaders in the country. Many religious leaders have cried out against this suspected ethnic cleansing. And yet the Federal government is engaging in rhetoric and campaigning for PMB’S second coming”the governorship aspirant said.
Adeogun maintained that a government that allows her people to be murdered daily is not only totally irresponsible but criminal and has failed to fulfill the social contract of protecting lives and property of the citizens.
He promised that if voted in as the next governor of Osun state ,the welfare and security of his people would be his priority stressing that the government’ of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the new leadership would make lives better for Nigerians in all spheres of life. Only the living can demand for other rights. It is sad that one state claimed to have lost about 500 persons to herdsmen terrorism and nobody has been prosecuted for this.”
Adeogun added that democracy would have meanings when the lives of people were secured and food put on their table stressing that he emphatized with people of Osum State where workers were deliberately denied of their legitimate full salaries under the pretext of poor allocations from the Federation account pointing out that even the bailout was invested on white elephant projects.
“To make our democracy have meaningful and lasting impact,I charge my people to go out and get their voters cards. Those who have theirs should not yield to the temptations of selling them. Our votes are our power to effect a better change and install a purposeful government that would make lives better,”he advised.
