One Killed, Three Arrested As Bandits Battle Police
A suspected robber was killed while three of his accomplices were arrested after they engaged policemen attached to Taraba State Police Command in a gun battle.
Other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries.
The police said the suspects were part of armed robbers and kidnappers who had been terrorising residents of Bali Local Government Area and its environs.
The three suspects, who are in police custody, are identified as Halilu Umaru (35), Halilu Umaru, Lawale Shehu (22) and Isah Abdullahi (25).
The suspects were alleged to have opened fire on the police, who went to the scene after receiving credible information.
A police source said: “The gang of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers engaged the team of police operatives in a gun duel in Borno Bukuruku forest hideout in Bali Local Government Area.
In the process, one of them was gunned down by the superior firepower of our operatives while three others were arrested.”
The police said that an AK47 rifle, with eight rounds of ammunition, charms, an Army camouflage and cutlasses were recovered from them.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Akinremi, who confirmed the incident and arrest, said that the achievement wouldn’t have been possible, if not for information given by members of the public.
He said: “The three suspects are currently beinginterrogated, whileourmenarealready trailing the fleeing members of the gang.”
Akinremi urged members of the public to synergise with the police by giving information that would rid the state of criminals
