Sangosanya Condemns Plateau Killings, Urges Govt to Restore Peace

A human rights activist, Joseph Sangosanya has condemned the killings of over 200 persons in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau state.
The development worker who is also the Chairman of Christian Foundation for Social Justice and Equity, a non-governmental organisation, also urged government to restore peace to the troubled areas.
Sangosanya said this today, Wednesday in Jos in an interview with City Mirror News correspondent. He said, “the crisis is economic in nature. There is always nexus between poverty and conflict. Government must address issue of growing poverty in the country”.
“It is barbaric for anyone to take life of an innocent person for any reason. No justifiable reason(s) for doing so” he said.
He however called on government to arrest the perpetrators of the dastard attacks. “Government must ensure that all perpetrators of these attacks are apprehended and prosecuted. It is only when justice is done that peace can reign” he stated.
The seasoned human rights activist challenged “security agencies to wake up from slumber and arrest the situation. It is imperative that peace is urgently restored to the affected areas”.
The development worker expressed deep concern for the people of the affected communities. He urged “government to immediately commence rehabilitation of destroyed structures and provide stipend for the people to start life afresh”.
Over 200 people were reportedly killed in a suspected Fulani herdsmen attacks on some communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs of Plateau state.
