Monarch Urges Youths To Embrace Agriculture, Stop Seeking Government, White Collar Employments

The Ooni of Eti-Oni in Osun State, His Imperial Majesty Oba Dokun Thompson, has called on youth to embrace agriculture and stop focusing on crude oil, gas and other products or employment from government.

Oba Thompson said there was more money in agricultural products than others employment work.

He said Osun State has the lowest employment rate in Nigerian because their people refused to be unemployed and rather went to farms, stressing that they make more money in farms than the salary the government offers to them.

He said ”The people of Osun State focused more on agriculture than government work because they make more than what the government offers to them as salary and due to that, Osun State has the lowest employment rate in Nigerian.

Oba Thompson stressed that the white men made more money on cocoa than those that are selling it to them.

He said because the white men can process the raw materials, (which Nigerians can’t) the youths need to be trained on how to process cocoa in order to transform it to something tangible that can fetch them money without waiting for work from any agencies.

The monarch who was the guest speaker at Bowen University Faculty of agriculture, and who also delivered a lecture on the topic ” Value Addition And Substainability Impact On Food Security” explained that the importance and effects food has on the political social and economic aspects of any generation or civilization cannot be emphasized.

He said food helps the human brain to function and without it, disasters, dangers, war and killings are imminent.

He also stated that Nigeria needed to add value on the production of cocoa for it to compete with Ghana and the Ivory Coast.

He admonished the students of agriculture to take the course seriously, saying the course is one of the best that can set Nigeria free from hunger thereby calling on the youth to venture into it and stop wasting time waiting for white collar jobs.

The monarch also called on government to invest and empower youth in agricultural products so as to end recession and poverty in the country.

Also, the dean faculty of agriculture science, Mrs Foluke Aderemi said students are no longer interested in studying agriculture in schools because they believe it is about using only the hands to cultivated and plants, saying technology has made agriculture easier.

While encouraging the students, Aderemi said without farmers, there won’t be food, and without food, daily activities cannot be achieved successfully.

She also urged the government to support the youth in agriculture so as to ends hunger in our society.
