NIEPA To Train Education Planners, Managers In Kano

The National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, NIEPA Nigeria Ondo, will on Monday, 18th begins one week comprehensive Capacity Development Programme for key education Planners and Managers in Kano State.

The programme according to a Press Release issued and signed by the NIEPA Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sola Ebire and made available to CityMirrorNews in Akure at the weekend will take place at the State’s SUBEB Headquarters in Audu Baku’s Secretariat, Kano.

The statement maintained that some of the germane areas of concentration in the Capacity Development Programme are: Leadership Techniques and E – Administration, for Heads of personnel Management Unit of Kano State Universal Basic Education Board, Educational Management Information System(EMIS) for the Effective Implementation of Educational Programmes, for Heads of Planning, Research.

The programme which is expected to commence between Monday 18th on Friday 22 would enable Statistics Unit, Budgeting and Financial Management in Education, for Heads of Finance and Supplies, Better measures of School Mapping, for Heads of Physical Planning Unit and Enhancing Teacher Professional Development Programme for Quality Education Delivery, for Heads of School Services Unit in Kano State SUBEB for training.

While highlighting the objectives of the Capacity Development Programme, the Director General of NIEPA, Prof. Lilian Salami hinted that “the Programme would not only expose participants to modalities of acquiring skills in e – administration, disseminate work through e – administration, they would be acquainted with the use of indicators  in educational system having been properly groomed on how to identify various indicators that can serve in internal efficiency in the educational system”.

She said, “They would also be able to use indicators to measure the performance of access, quality, coverage, facilities and capital expenditure as well as being able to work on data management bringing out various usefulness in terms of data storage, data retrieval and data management within the education system”.

On the issue of Budgeting and Financial Management, NIEPA’s Boss reiterated that at the end of the Capacity Development Programme, Kano State SUBEB’s heads of Finance and Supplies would have acquired remarkable skills in Budget Process and School Finance,  and they would have become better in managing Institutions’ funds as well as being able to describe finance and payroll procedures such as Automated Accounting Transactions Recording and Reporting System(ATRRS), Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS), Government Integrated Financial Management Information System

(GIFMIS), Economic Reform and Government Project(ERGP), and Human Resources Management Systems(HRMS) to the level of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Prof. Salami also emphasized another salient aim of the Capacity Development Programme which is, to empower heads of School Services Unit with appropriate knowledge and skills for teacher professional development programme, that will lead to positive change in Schools and improve quality in basic Schools in Kano State.
