Addressing a press conference in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Chairman of the forum, Alhaji Bashir Lawal said the direct primary election is the best option.

Lawal said the process will enable inclusiveness and curb money politics as it would make it difficult for anyone to bribe all the delegates.

He added that the process would give every member of the party the opportunity to participate in the process, saying that the direct primary election is constitutional and acceptable.

According to him, indirect primary negates the democratic credentials upon which a progressive party like APC thrives.

Lawal maintained that, as a party who determined to win the governorship election in the state for over all interest of continuity of the good work of the present administration under Rauf Aregbesola, embracing direct primary will deepen our democratic values.

He noted that, for the purpose of transparency and cost saving, direct primary was the only method that could be adopted.

The group also frown at people politicing using direct method, ” In the interest of objectivity , we therefore frown at any politicking aimed at forcefully bringing down the roof. Some aspirants have done well and conducted themselves within the limit of party politics and in the spirit of a good sportmanship”.

The forum however urged all the party members from all zones to see the party as their home.

According to him, “we commend the decision of the National Working Committee of our party in settling for the direct primary election for the Thursday primary.”

“As we all know, direct primary helps in throwing up a credible, suitable and popular choice. For a fact, indirect primary election negates the democratic credentials upon which a progressive party like ours thrives.”

“As a party determined to win the Governorship election on September 22nd, in the overall interest of continuing Governor Aregbesola’s good work in our dear state, embracing direct primary election will not only deepen our democratic value in line with our ‘Omoluabi’ ethos, it will also reduce the scourge of corruption which has eaten deep into the fabric of our society”, he said.
