By Ayobami Agboola, Osogbo
A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun state, Otunba Olajumoke Ogunkeyede, has berated the decision of Elders caucus of APC popularly called “Agba Osun” on their stance that the Osun West Senatorial District should produce the next governorship candidate of the party for the September 22, gubernatorial election.
Ogunkeyede boasted that he is one of the leading members of Elders caucus of APC, saying the party leadership could not be coerced to deviate from the laid down rules and regulations of the party.
CityMirrorNews recalls that the elders caucus, has in a meeting recently held in Ede, insisted that the Governor Rauf Aregbesola successor should be picked from Osun West senatorial district.
Ogunkeyede while speaking with journalists in Osogbo said such decision would not hold water, adding that they should desist from chasing their own shadow.
He cautioned the elders against working for their own personal interest, saying all the 27 aspirants contesting on the platform of APC should be given the equal opportunity to contest the poll.
Ogunkeyede warned those that are agitated for zoning arrangement to allow the level play ground in primary election of the party that set to hold on July 7th, to choose the flag bearer of the governorship in the state.
He debunked the rumours making around that Osun largest leadership has agreed to zone the governorship ticket to the west senatorial district, he described the action as fraudulent politics from the selfishness and coward to a fair primary election of the party.
He said, ” why only eleven people call themselves Agba Osun that make the claimed of zone governorship ticket to Osun west. They want to be the mouthpiece of the larger Osun leadership that am part of them I don’t know when they met. I want them to mention names of those who were present at the meeting and the place.
I don’t see any reason to say governorship ticket should be zoned to Osun west because there is no significant in west that is not in the East and Central. The election is concern all the state of Osun indigenous and there must be given equal right to run for election.”he said.
He noted that the zoning arrangement is not stipulated in the constitution of the party, just as he emphasized on the supremacy of the party on any matter.
He, however, lauded the present administration under the leadership of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for open the state to industrialization environment because of the gargantuan infrastructural development within seven and half years.
He further said, ” many people wish to succeeded Aregbesola from office because of the good programmes he lays down to elevate the state among the comity of states in Nigeria.
According to him, “Everybody want to be part of the glory of Aregbesola led administration in the state and that is the reason why we have many aspirants that we pray for someone who will win for our party in September 22, gubernatorial election in the state.
“Aregbesola has performed excellently okay, he run a government with clear vision, his plan really help the state to develop while compare to the regime of the opposition party
“Who wish to resume office after Aregbesola should allow the chairman with all executive and delegates of the party to discharge their duties without any influence of zoning agenda”, he said.
