The All Progressives Congress APC in Osun State may have considered the agitation by party members and leaders in Osun West Senatorial District that the governorship ticket of the party be zoned to the area for the September 22 Governorship Election.

Indigenes of the district across party lines especially in the APC are of the opinion that the district has not produced a Governor that has spent 4 years in office in its 27 years of existence.

Findings by CityMirrorNews however revealed that the party’s hierarchy are in consultations to give an unpopular figure in the race, Alhaji Bola Oyebanji, the current Commissioner for Finance under Aregbesola’s cabinet, the candidature for the election.

Oyebanji comes from Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State which is an integral part of the Senatorial District.

The zone has some of the key aspirants from the 27 contenders for the APC ticket from the zone are the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Najeem Salaam, Elder Peter Babalola who also comes from Ikire.

Feelers from opinion leaders and those of thought indicated that the move is to redirect the focus of party men as well as the people of the state to someone who has not earned so much publicity, name calling or blemish on his career so far either as a practical politician, technocrat or administrator.

Some of the reasons our correspondent learnt culminated in the hitherto “choice” of Oyebamiji is his track record of administration which had a sterling record in his former appointments as the Head of the Osun State Investment Company Limited OSICOL and the state owned Omoluabi Holdings.

CityMirrorNews reliably gathered that key figures in the APC have in the last few days meeting and trying to approach the Commissioner who was said to have declined the offer in serving as an alternative if the candidature of the Chief of Staff to Governor Aregbesola, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola is not well received by the people of Osun State.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who completes his 8-year constitutional tenure on November 26, 2018 is yet to officially declare his support for any of the aspirants despite insinuations that he has been given an “order from Lagos” to field Oyetola for the election.
