An Akure-based human rights Lawyer, Mr. Morakinyo Ogele has given seven days ultimatum to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of Ondo State, to sack the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde for allegedly slapping a police officer.

Ogele who accused Abegunde of slapping a Police officer in Akure, said the SSG’s attitude was unbecoming of a public officer.

He alleged that Abegunde had on two occassions slapped innocent persons, saying that his attitude constitute public embarrassement.

His words, “The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State is hereby given seven days to arrest and charge the SSG to court for criminal assault. This will restrain him from furthering his slapping habit.

“It is an offence for a police officer to be slapped by the SSG. That action connotes that he has slapped the Inspector General of Police and the entire police force”.

Ogele, a lawyer said “The conduct of SSG, slapping a police officer is very barbaric and crude. The man is not fit and proper to be the Secretary to the State Government. Looking at Akeredolu’s mood of life, he won’t tolerate such nonsense.”

“The other time, Akeredolu appealed to me personally when one Olalekan
Odere briefed me to sue him (Abegunrin) on a case similar to this. Akeredolu appealed to me to drop the case. It is the habit that he can’t
control,” Ogele added.

He stated further that “anyone with such temperament is not fit of a person holding the SSG’s office. I appeal to Akeredolu to sack him within seven days.”

“I fear that this slapping habit may soon cause Ondo state and South West a global embarrassment. If the government is retainning him, he has to be sent to a rehabilitation home, so he can learn how to conduct himself in such elevated position,” he stressed.
