Ex-convict Jailed Three Years For Stealing Techo Phone In Osun

A 45-year-oldman, Wasiu Akanmu, was on Monday convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for theft of a mobile phone (Tecno W3).

The Magistrate, Mrs Aishat Oloyade, had ordered the convict be kept in custody at Ilesa prison with hard work due to the magnitude of the offense committed without option of fine.

Akanmu, an Ex-convict was arraigned before Magistrate Oloyade on a count charge bearing on stealing which he pleaded guilty to.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Joshua Oladoye, had told the court that the convict committed the offense on May 4, at about 6:00 p.m, at Onward area, Osogbo.

He said the convict who has been convicted and sent to prison on several occasions for offences bothering on stealing, theft, and conspiracy among others went to the shop of one Mrs Adeleke Adenle, with the intent of buying a sewing materials but later carted away the mobile phone belonging to the complainant.

He said the convict also went away with the sum of N50,000 belonging to the complainant adding that the value of the stolen mobile phone worth about N22,000 before the convict was traced and later arrested.

He explained that the convict carted away with one techno w3 phone and cash sum of 50,000 when he notice that the complainant was busy attended to other customers inside the shop.

He said the convict was arrested through the help of the person he sold the phone to.

The prosecutor tendered the phone and the statement of the convict as an exhibit before the court.

According to prosecutor the offense is contrary to section 383 (1)and punishable under section 390 (9) of the criminal code cap 34 volume 11.laws of Osun State 2002.

The Prosecutor said the offense committed contravened Section 383 (1)and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Cpde Cap 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Magistrate Oloyade convicted Akanmu on self admmitance and evidence tendered against him by the prosecutor.

The Convict who had no legal representation prayed the cour to to pardon him, saying he has no parent and relatives that could look for him in prison.

Delivering her verdict, Oloyade sentenced Akanmu to three years imprisonment with hard labour and without option of fine.

She opined that the convict was not ready to change and he doesn’t deserve to leave in a society where decent people are living.
