We Don’t Charge School Fees In Public Schools-Osun Govt

The Osun state government has said that, contrary to rumours making the rounds, that it does not charge any school fees in public schools in the state.

The state government also said at no point in time in the 8 years of Governor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola-led administration was any school fees charged in public primary and secondary schools.

The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, Dr Ajibola Basiru made the clarification at the weekend during the final town hall meeting organized by a socio-political group, Osun All Progressives Youth Forum (OAPYF) held at Osogbo Township Hall, Osogbo.

Recalls that OAPYF led by comrade Olateju Adunni Oloungbebe was specifically conceived to ameliorate perceiving differences within the party across the nine constituency and pacify aggrieved members in the state.

Dr. Basiru further stressed, that the only payment done in schools in the state is “Education Trust Levy (ETL), which is N500 per term for pupils/students in both public and private schools in the state.

According to him “at no point in time in the 8 years of Governor Aregbesola-led administration was any school fees charged in public primary and secondary schools.”

“For pupils in the newly constructed or rehabilitated elementary schools which are 20 in number, they are to pay a sum of N2000 per annum. This sum, if divided by three, would give us N666.6 per term.

“Students in the new Middle schools (of which 25 have been completed) are expected to pay N3000 per annum, which gives us N1000 per term if divided by three.

“For the newly constructed High schools, students are to pay N6000 per annum; if this amount is divided into three, it means each student would pay N2000 per term as School Infrastructure Maintenance Levy.

Speaking the deputy speaker of Osun State House Hon. Akintunde Adegboye charged the youths to mobinize community to register for voter card ahead of furth coming election.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Kolapo Alimi commended Aregbesola on infrastructural development across the state.

Alimi further explained that, the good governance of the present administration has affect many people in positive way through construction of roads, building of the atate of the art classrooms which is beyond the expectation of the people of the state.

Earlier, Comrade Olateju Adunni Olorungbebe, the OAPYF Coordinator charged youths on the need for them to swath their sword and let go of their grievances.

He assured the youths that all the identified issues would be properly addressed.

He, however, enjoined the people of the State, especially those who have not registered, to ensure they register with INEC, with a view to securing their PVCs that would enable them participate in the coming election.
