NAVC Vows To Support Buhari’s Anti-Corruption Crusade, Exposes Corrupt Persons In Ondo

Determined to expose corrupt civil servants and individuals, the National Anti-Corruption Volunteer Corps (NAVC), has declared that no corrupt person would have a place to hide when the volunteers begin full operation across all the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.

The state coordinator of the corps, Mr. Gbenga Akinbobola said this in Akure, the Ondo State capital while inaugurating the Akure South Local Government Area Chapter of the corps.

Akinbobola said the basic job of the volunteers, who would soon be inaugurated in all the remaining local government areas of the state include intense mobilisation against sharp practices as well as providing scoops that would lead to the apprehension of fraudulent persons or group.

Akinbobola explained that a mandatory training programme would soon be organized for all the volunteers to enable them understand the nitty gritty of the nature of corruption as well as get used to the operational guidelines of the NAVC.

He said the commission had realised that no country had ever won their wars against corruption without making use of volunteers.

The NAVC coordinator however warned the volunteers against deviating from the noble ideals of the commission by not using their position to resort to illegal arrests, harass or intimidate innocent person in the state.

“Your main duty is to report any corrupt case to the headquarters of the commission, you don’t have the power to arrest or prosecute anybody. Is only the headquarters of the commission has the right to do so.

“Please, don’t go outside rules as stipulated in the guidelines. The functions of NAVC must be adhere to. Functions like, holding monthly meeting for effective plans, dissemination of information from commission on corruption matters, send reports to NAVC state coordinator, maintain effective liaison with state coordinator and ICPC of fixed as ICPC ground soldiers, you must not conceal any corruption matters, but report”.

Akinbobola also warned that erring ones among them would have his membership withdrawn in the event of any adverse report against them by members if the public.

Besides, he threatened that the commission would also not hesitate to take criminal action against any abuse by any volunteer.

He therefore appreciated them for their interest in joining the President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war crusade.
